The Canine Connection
offers private lessons in addition to Family
Pet Classes and Competition
Classes. If you are interested in private lessons feel
free to contact us!
Very
small classes ensure plenty of individual attention.
Some classes include the introduction of Agility obstacles
to build confidence and teamwork.

Puppy
Play & Train is a 1.5 hour session for puppies 8 to 16
weeks focusing on socialization and bad habit prevention. We teach the
puppy's people how to manage the puppy and his environment to keep the
puppy out of trouble and give him the desire to learn from and work
with his people. We introduce the puppy to some of our foundation exercises,
including eye contact, following, settle and leave it.
Family
Manners is a 6 week class for dogs over 12 weeks who have
had little or no training. This class focuses on relationship and teaching
the dog polite behavior including the basic 7 commands(sit, down, stand,
stay, come, settle and leave it) and loose-leash walking. The last 10
minutes of each class is devoted to resolving common behavior problems
and teaching people how to provide appropriate outlets for their dog's
energy.
Intermediate
is a 6 week class that builds on the skills learned in the
Puppy Preschool or Family Manners class by challenging the dog with
distraction and adding some new skills. This class prepares most dogs
to pass the AKC's Canine Good Citizen test. Common behavior problems
will also be addressed.
Advanced
+ Intro to Agility
is
a 6 week class that strengthens the skills learned in the previous levels
for increased reliability. In addition, Agility obstacles are introduced,
increasing the dog's confidence and strengthening the bond between the
dog and handler. An Outward Hound field trip is included Spring through
Fall. Graduates of this class are invited to attend field trips at no
charge.
Canine
Good Citizen/Therapy Dog
is a 4 week class open to graduates of the Intermediate Class. Confidence,
polite greeting behavior and prompt response to commands are our focus.
A practice AKC
Canine Good Citizen test and/or Therapy Dog evaluation is
included. Certification tests are available several times per year at
our Open House/fundraiser events.
Outward
Hound
(seasonal) is a drop in (by reservation) class for members and graduates
of the Advanced class. Classes will meet at various locations (hiking,
dog parks, pet stores) for a "real world" training experience.

Competition
Basics
is a 6 week class that teaches Novice handlers footwork, ring procedure
and the Novice class requirements. Attention exercises will also be
introduced.
Mixer
is
a 6 week class that introduces Rally-O and tracking, along with strengthening
obedience and Agility skills.
Specialized
Classes
are available on a rotating schedule, depending on demand. Some of the
classes offered include: Competition Basics, Focused
Attention, Rally-O, and Competing
